Members of the Clavicipitaceae family grow by infecting insect larvae or mature insects with spores. These germinate and grow to slowly consume the insect till it dies. At which time they then produces spore bearing structures. Cordyceps are sexual state of the fungus, where Paecilomyces are the asexual form. |
