Found growing on decaying wood and, more commonly, woodchip mulch. Previously known as Psilocybe subaeruginosa, although this species exists in NZ, it is uncommon and requires sequencing to identify. Yet I am seeing species of Psilocybe from woodchips being called P. allenii in recent times.
