A small to medium bolete with a dry, cracked cap, yellow pores that often show distinct bluing, and a slender stipe lacking reticulation.
Cap: Dry, matt, finely tomentose, usually yellowbrown to reddishbrown. Commonly develops cracks or areolate patches, exposing paler flesh beneath. Margin even; surface never viscid.
Pores: Bright yellow, ageing oliveyellow.
Pores: small, round; bruising reaction distinct, often showing clear blue staining when handled. Tubes yellow, sometimes bluing near the apex.
Stipe: Slender, yellowish to brownish, sometimes with faint reddish tones. Surface smooth to finely fibrillose; no reticulation. Base may show slight bluing.
Flesh: Pale yellow, soft; bluing reaction common, especially in the cap context and upper stipe. Odour and taste mild.
Common name: Bluefoot bolete.
Habitat: Under oak, silver birch, pine trees.
Substrate: Ground.
Distribution: Wide spread under introduced trees.
Season: Late summer.
