Description:
A medium-sized, pale brown to grey-brown Agaricus found in lowland podocarp forest, often fruiting in pairs or small groups. Distinguished by its smooth to finely fibrillose cap, pale pinkish gills in youth, simple ring, and lack of strong yellowing or phenolic odour.

Cap: 40-90 mm diam.; convex to plano-convex; surface smooth to finely fibrillose, pale grey-brown to light brown, sometimes with a slightly darker disc; margin even, not strongly uplifted.
Gills: free, crowded; pale pinkish-brown when young, becoming dark chocolate-brown at maturity; edges even.
Stipe: 50-80 x 8-18 mm; white, smooth, sometimes slightly tapering; base not bulbous.
Ring: simple, thin, membranous, often collapsing or disappearing in older specimens.
Context: white, soft to firm; no rapid yellowing; may show faint yellowing at extreme base only.
Odour: mild, mushroomy; no almond/anise, no phenolic smell.

Common name: Pale Forest Agaricus.
Habitat: Podocarp-broadleaf forest.
Substrate: Saprobic in deep leaf litter.
Distribution: Widespread in northern North Island podocarp–broadleaf forest.
Season: Autumn.
Biostatus: Endemic.
Edible: Unknown.
Spore print: Dark brown.
